Activities of the Foundation
The School Programme
The Foundation has a nursery and primary school for the children of blinds beggars, orphans, disabled and less privileged in the society. It is indeed a programme that has been in existence for over 26years, which follows the National Curriculum for formal education and is free of charge. More than twenty (20) set of primary six (6) pupils have graduated and have been place into various secondary schools through the State Ministry of Education. A good number of HDFN School graduates have gained admission into different Tertiary Institutions e.g. Kaduna State University (KASU), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna Polytechnic etc. in fact the Foundation has records of some of its pupils who have excelled and have either completed Universities, Polytechnics or are still pursuing their degrees Degree or HND Programmes.
The Foundation also provides all instructional materials, uniforms, daily lunch to the school children and pays staff salaries. The organisation occasionally organizes staff training programmes, evaluation exercise and counselling services. It also promotes the development of educational materials by designing and producing appropriate materials at an average cost. These materials include: News Brief, Newsletters, Worksheets, Posters, Banners, Charts, Reports and Diagrams. Others events include Fund Rising Activities, Annual Celebration of the Day of the African Child, Graduation Ceremonies, Sports Competitions, Excursions and Networking with other NGOs.
Presently, the school has a total number of eight (8) classrooms, eight (8) teaching staff, three (3) non-teaching staff and two and sixteen (216) pupils. The nature of our school activities include:
- Full time Educational Services for Children in Need of Special Protection Measures (CNSPM) aged 4-15years (Nursery 1 – Primary 6).
- Vocational training for children aged 10 – 15years such as Sewing, Knitting and Home Economics.
- Basic literacy class for parents of our target group.
Vocational Training
This is another programme that trains the parents of our target group to improve their economic condition which include Knitting, Sewing and Home Economics free of charge. The Foundation intends to establish more vocational programmes such as Fishery, Poultry and Farming to train women and youth in Agricultural Production and Animal Husbandry. The Foundation also plans to introduce skills like Carpentry. Motor/Machine Mechanic. Vulcanizing and Block Making in outreach centers when resources become available.
HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign
This has been designed to enlighten the public on the harmful effect of this and other dangerous diseases e.g. Malaria, Polio, Diarrhea through lectures, awareness campaign in schools, colleges and community level to promote good health and enhance development.
Networking
This is also another programme that aims at establishing a cordial relationship with other NGOs and International Organisations to share ideas and sometimes collaborate to execute projects that will be beneficial to the society.
Psychological Counselling
Counselling services were provided to various groups and individuals especially Secondary School Students and Borstol Home Inmates, lectures were delivered on the importance of growing up to be useful citizens.
